The hemp plant does not require herbicides because its leaves completely shade the ground after just a few days, meaning weeds no longer receive any sunlight.

Pesticides are also not needed for its cultivation, as its own cannabinoids make it resistant to pests. This is why it is often planted as a bulwark to protect other crops as a field border.

In addition, hemp loosens the soil as a deep-rooted plant, is fast-growing and undemanding. Hemp's water requirements are considerably lower than those of cotton.
